This week sees the opening of the highly anticipated St James’s Market, just below Piccadilly Circus. The £500 million investment by The Crown Estate began in 2011 doesn’t just introduce a new market, but also boasts the introduction of more than 260,000ft2 of contemporary offices, shops and restaurants centred around the new public square. This landmark redevelopment includes the refurbishment of two historic blocks alongside the newly developed open space, right in the heart of the West End.

The market dates back to the 18th century, where the aristocratic and those in the upper echelons of society shopped for fresh produce. Now in the 21st century, the market plays home to a range of eclectic eateries including Shoreditch favourites Duck & Waffle and Ole & Steen, as well as a number of clothing and lifestyle brands joining the illustrious line up.
